AISD consists of sixty-eight elementary schools, fifteen middle schools, and eleven high schools. Eanes Independent School District
This year, for the second consecutive year, EISD was rated as an "Exemplary" school district. This year 98.5% of the students passed the Texas Assessment of Academic Skills Test, and 63.3% of the students at Westlake High School scored 1110 on the SAT. Lake Travis Independent School District
The LTISD, originally a component of the Dripping Springs Independent School District, was formed on June 12, 1981. At that time, 541 students were enrolled in grades K - 12. Since then, the enrollment of the LTISD has increased to 4,148 students. Through the Texas Accountability System in 1999-00 the District received an "Exemplary" rating. In the fall of 1997, Leander ISD was awarded a "Projects for Educational Technology (PET)" grant by TEA. The purpose of this grant was to fund the T3 program, which attempts to educate instructors to use Information Technology effectively. Lexington Independent School District
The district's 954 students are housed on four campuses. The high school, middle school, and elementary school are on one site, with the primary school two blocks away. The University of Texas is the largest component of The University of Texas System. UT Austin is a major research university that is home to 49,500 students, 2,700 faculty, and 17,000 staff members. UT Austin was founded in 1883 on 40 acres near the state capitol. As the academic flagship of the UT System's 15 component institutions, the University is home to students from every country in Texas, all 50 states, and about 120 foreign countries.
St. Edward's University is a private, Catholic liberal arts institution of about 3,800 students. The Rev. Edward Sorin, the same priest who founded the University of Notre Dame, founded the school in 1885. Students enjoy the advantages of small classes and personal attention coupled with excellent internships and service-learning opportunities.
Concordia University at Austin is a private, coeducational institution of liberal arts and sciences offering undergraduate and graduate degrees. Founded in 1926, Concordia is affiliated with the Lutheran Church, however all faiths are welcome. The campus is located on a tree-shaded 20-acre campus in the heart of Austin.
Huston-Tillotson College is located on a 23 acre tree-lined campus near downtown Austin, Texas. Huston-Tillotson College is an independent, church-related, historically black institution. It is affiliated with The United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ, and the United Negro College Fund.
Austin Community College has been serving the Central Texas community since 1973, when it was established by the Austin Independent School District. Today it is governed by an independent board. The college has grown to more than 26,000 college credit students each fall and nearly 18,000 additional enrollments during the year in continuing education programs.
Southwestern Texas State University Authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1899, Southwest Texas State Normal School opened its doors in 1903. As the university's student population has grown - from 330 in 1903 to over 22,000 in 2000 - the campus, too, has expanded, and today SWT is the sixth largest public university in the state.
Southwestern University was first institution of higher learning in Texas, chartered by the Republic of Texas in 1840. Affiliated with The United Methodist Church. Southwestern is locate in Georgetown, Texas, 28 miles north of Austin. 91% of students from Texas, 9% from other states and nations. Students who were ranked in the top 10% of their high school class accounted for 56% of fall 2000 entering class. SAT scores averaged 1240. ACT scores averaged 27.
